Why is my A/C blowing warm air?
Most often the system is low on refrigerant, and a system that is low has a leak somewhere. It can also be the compressor, a cooling fan or a blend door inside the dash. We find the cause first, because in South Florida you will notice a guess within a week.
Do I just need an A/C recharge?
Only if nothing is leaking, which is rare. The system is sealed, so if it is low, the refrigerant went somewhere. A recharge on its own blows cold for a while and then you are back. We find the leak first rather than filling it up and sending you off to lose it again. Newer cars use a refrigerant called R-1234yf, which costs more than the old kind, so fixing the leak matters even more.
Why does my A/C blow cold on the highway but warm at a light?
At speed, air rushes through the condenser at the front of the car. At a stop, the cooling fan has to do that job. When it cools on the road and goes warm in traffic, the fan or the airflow through the condenser is the first thing we check. Sitting on Federal Highway in August shows it up fast.
